It was a miraculous escape for 48-odd passengers of the KSRTC Super Fast bus, which slipped off the Chinnakkada Overbridge here in the wee hours of Monday. Only three passengers suffered minor injuries in the accident.

The accident occurred around 2.45 a.m., when the Mala-bound Super Fast bus from Thiruvananthapuram reached the Chinnakkada Overbridge. According to sources in the KSRTC, the driver informed the authorities that the bus slipped off the bridge, as it applied sudden brake when an autorickshaw suddenly came towards it.

As the road had turned slippery following heavy rains and the bus was descending the over bridge  it lost control and overshot the bridge crashing the railings.

Luckily, the bus came to a halt in an almost hanging position. KSRTC sources said that the engine, window panes and left portion of the bus were damaged in the accident.

The three persons injured were admitted to the hospital and were discharged after administering first aid. The Police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel laboured for hours to remove the bus from the spot.
