The stories of staff shortage, non-functional trolleys and accidents within the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital (MCH) continue. This time, at the receiving end were two employees of the KSRTC – a station master and a conductor of the city unit.

Ratheesh, a 26-year-old conductor at the city unit of the KSRTC, was on duty in a bus headed from East Fort to Moonnanakkuzhy when his hand got jammed between the door of the bus. The pain was so severe that he lost consciousness.

The 108 ambulance was summoned and station master Wilfred Rubin took him immediately to the Medical College. What greeted them there was indifference.

“The stretcher was broken and the trolley would not roll properly. There was no way we could push him and there was no one to help us. There were no attenders and the doctor in the casualty too said that she was helpless,’’ said Wilfred Rubin.

Finally, it happened. The trolley turned turtle and in a bid to keep it straight, Wilfred Rubin met with the same fate as Ratheesh. He too ended up with an injured hand that got jammed between the trolley!
