Organ donation has caught on with the public and more people, organisations and even employee unions have started pitching in. In the latest such move, members of KESCA, an employee union of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), have included organ donation as part of their year-long 34th anniversary celebrations.

Along with cultural programmes, KESCA members will encourage organ donation and tree plantation among the employees of KSRTC.

“Starting this year, we will ask families of KSRTC employees to donate their organs, a noble act which sends a humanitarian message to the society. There are over 1,500 KSRTC employees. With the support of their family members, we will start awareness programmes and organ donation drives in all depots in the state,” said KESCA general secretary A Bhuvanendrakumar.

KESCA will also concentrate on blood donation this year. “Being KSRTC employees, we witness accidents every now and then. We know how important it is to save lives of people. We already have about 260 members as blood donors, and we plan to rope in all members of the KESCA to the forum,” he added.

With the support of the forest department and KSRTC administration, KESCA members will also plant saplings in all possible depots.
