In an effort to shore up its revenue this Onam season, the KSRTC will depute its vigilance wing officials at select locations in the city and suburbs to ensure patronage of commuters.

Twenty vigilance officials have already been deployed at Aroor, Vyttila, Thoppumpady, Kakkanad, Thrippunithura in the morning and evening hours. The squad has been asked to ‘woo’ the public from 7.30 am to 10.30 am and 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm by calling out to the passengers who are waiting in the bus stops.

Also, they have been asked to ensure that the KSRTC buses arrive at the stops as per schedule.

This will continue till the Onam season concludes, the vigilance officers said. The activity began on Monday morning as per the orders of the Vigilance Officer, Thiruvananthapuram KSRTC.

The KSRTC management had earlier taken decision to depute 352 vigilance officers everyday for this duty to increase revenue for the cash strapped sector. However, due to several technical issues, the ‘Jana Souhridam’ scheme was brought to a stop.
