A Karnataka state transport corporation bus driver wad forced to drive his bus. With 50 passengers in it in reverse for over a kilometer on Santhaweri Ghat road in Chikmagalur as a tusker followed the bus.

The elephant disappeared after following the bus for over a kilometer. The passenger bus was going from chikmaglur to tarikere when on way they met Tusker. Fearing any untoward incident passengers got scared and started screaming .few passengers recorded the video of tusker following the bus.

The bus continued to reverse and the tusker soon gave up.

Honking or flashing headlights can irritate the elephants. Better to wait it out at a safe distance. Make sure that there is enough room to manouevre around and turn back in case anything untoward happens – don’t be cocky that your vehicle is strong enough to withstand any charge by elephants the vehicles are not!

In case there are elephants grazing on the road side, we could pass them by only if there is at least 20-30 feet separation and they are turned away from the road. When you stop by, caution both oncoming and following vehicles to do the same and ensure that the same discipline is followed. Walking out of the vehicles near the wild animals is risky and should be avoided.
