The government is considering a proposal of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to ply buses powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in major cities.

Announcing this in his address to the Assembly on Friday, Governor P. Sathasivam said the feasibility of operating electric buses using batteries would be evaluated. Electric buses and those powered by CNG will be operated to provide last mile connectivity to the Kochi Metro Rail project.

Seven more driver testing tracks and vehicle testing stations would be set up in PPP mode by the Motor Vehicles Department. A Road Safety Corps for training schoolchildren in road safety would be set up. Smart card-based driving and RC certificates would be issued to motorists.
