Aerialist hangs by her teeth from a helicopter over Niagara Falls
Erendira Vasquez Wallenda successfully completed an aerial stunt that involved dangling by her teeth from a helicopter over Niagara Falls.
The aerialist performed a series of maneuvers Thursday morning including hanging from her teeth, toes and knees all while on a hoop suspended from the helicopter.
She was tethered by her waist during the stunt to comply with a New York state law that requires safety harnesses for performers more than 6 metres in the air.
The 36-year-old mother of three and used a mouth guard to protect her teeth, but said she would be using the strength of her jaw muscles to avoid falling.
Wallenda comes from a renowned family of daredevils and performed the stunt on the fifth anniversary of her husband’s tight-rope walk over the falls.
Winds were much stronger than she had anticipated and Wallenda says she asked the helicopter pilot to “go higher” several times during the stunt.
